Lori's Daycare is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. We participate in the Provider's Choice Food Program and provide all meals. This includes infant formula (except for prescription only formulas which need to be provided by parents). There can be meals and snacks anywhere from breakfast to a late afternoon snack. I take full or part-time children and run a small, never more than 6 children at any given time, daycare. My current rate is $2.65 per hour per child. I provide parents with my vacation and holiday schedule by March 1st at the latest every year so everyone knows when daycare is closed. Of course, emergencies do happen, but I still try to give as much notice as possible on any changes that may come up. I have a list of current and past clients who are all willing to give you a reference. We have four dogs and a cat. All animal immunizations are up to date and the cat is declawed. I am an LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) and keep up to date on CPR, 1st Aid, and any other continuing education required by my license. We have a completely fenced in back yard with lots of large motor oriented play equipment.
I try to maintain a "family style" environment here. We don't keep a set schedule or "curriculum" here as a daycare center might. We do, however, read books, sing, play games, etc., as the children would at home.
Guidance, not discipline, is handled in a caring, gentle manner. I try to distract kids from points of conflict by removing them from the situation and giving them something more positive to focus on. Time-outs are more of a "sit back, take a few deep breaths and relax" moment--not as a punishment. I often sit with them for these few moments and we'll talk about the problem. We'll talk about sharing, kindness, gentleness, and friendship. This is not a day care center, but a home. I try to work with parents so that I can take care of their children as they want them taken care of.
